Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are motivated and eager to learn. They enjoy being read to, and after they have heard books read to them, they enjoy reading them on their own. They enjoy literature and discussing books. They have a wonderful knack for connecting personal experiences with the literature they have read. They are learning a second language and developing their vocabulary every day. My end in mind is to develop the love of reading that will take my students on great adventures.
I teach 24 first grade, second language learners who are living in a low-income community in Los Angeles.
Our school is a Title I school with students from preschool to fifth grade. At our school, we strive to instill the idea in our students that they are thinkers, leaders, and change-makers. We are the first Leader in Me school in our area, and we are very proud to be developing Thinkers, Leaders, and Change Makers!
My Project
I recently spent a vacation day learning how to use robots in my classroom to teach my students how to code. It will be the first step for them to get inspired to learn to code. Coding is a skill that will be useful for a long time to come.
I am requesting two Osmo Coding Awbie Game and External Drive for our class computer.
The Osmo Coding Awbie Game kits will help my students explore coding. They will use coding blocks while coding, make music while learning patterns and problem-solving. They will learn to create patterns, use timing, and rhythm. We will use the external drive to save any digital work the students create on our class computer.
My students will also work collaboratively with their peers and problem solve using the Osmo Coding Awbie Game. It is going to be as exciting for them as it was for me to be able to bring these robots into the classroom and the Osmo Coding Awbie Games to work on coding throughout the curriculum.
