My students need robot mice in order to begin learning the language of coding. This is a higher level cognitive demand task, and these mice are an affordable way to introduce coding to young students.
My 5th graders are eager to learn and chose our school of choice because they wanted an environment where structure was key and learning was accessible due to our hands on practices. They collaborate on all projects they engage in and love solving problems. It is always a pleasure to experience active engagement and thinking in young students, as well as an enthusiasm to problem solve help their peers. Our focus is preparing our students for their future. This last year, the students wrote a police report based on a crime scene and with the help of the local courts, watched a mock trial with their report as the focus. Students were excited to learn about all the options available to them in the future through this exercise.
No child is left behind in my class as my students understand that we are a family, a team, a unit and without each other, we are not working to full potential.
I learn so much from my students. Their thought processes are unique and they are able to share those processes through constant collaboration. I am privileged to work with a group of students who love learning and are excited.
My Project
STEM Robot Mice will be used to explore coding. After a college level training, I realized that it is possible to use these lower cost devices to introduce students to the concept of exploration, coding, directionality, specificity, number sense, etc. It is a unique way to keep students engaged and allow them to engage in discovery through collaboration. Working on a grid, students will be challenged to predict where the mouse will end up after entering several codes. Students will explore patterns of coding. Student will explore multiple ways of arriving at a solution. Students will engage in competitions with each other. I promise to post pictures of students having fun and learning!!!
