Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach an amazing, energetic, engaged, and kind group of fifth grade students in an inner city high poverty public school in Indianapolis. Many of my students have parents who work odd hours and have limited time to spend with their wonderfully talented children. My students work hard in class giving 110% with everything that they do. They persevere through difficult topics, enjoy being engaged in their hands-on activities, and they love to laugh while learning. I set high expectation for my students. They understand that true, authentic learning takes hard work and dedication and requires them to take ownership over their education. My goal for my students is to leave my class as lifelong learners. The students work hard to overcome all obstacles in their paths to meet and grow past my expectations.
My Project
My students have a desire to learn how to code and control robots. My students are in need of two iPad Airs to make this happen. Students will be using the iPads to write basic code, to take part in the process of solving real world problems, and to be learning through STEAM. Students will be working together to develop a code to control a robot, but at the same time learning life skills to prepare them for the future. My students do not often have the opportunity to learn with technology, and this project would make that happen.
