My students need a robot (Dash) to help them with the ever-changing modern world. We will learn about coding and basic robotics to boost our STEM time in the classroom with the accessories.
These students are a group that lives in a rainy coastal Alaskan town. This means they love fishing and everything about being outside (even in the rain)!
My fourth graders are a group of caring learners who are constantly exploring the world around them.
My students are inventive, smart, and pretty darn cute.
I focus on building community and having a positive outlook on everything - even when it seems impossible. Focusing on community and growing empathy for one another at a younger age will encourage a broader scope of the world when growing into adults. We are excited about the remainder of the year so we can learn more about things we are exploring and questioning.
My Project
Students in this modern world are expected to know so much by the time they enter high school. Having a tool that is not only super fun but also very unique is a great way for kids to learn about coding and basic robotics.
I hope to use Dash to teach students coding so they can experiment with it more when they enter middle and high school.
I feel this is important because there are more and more jobs created every day (in every field) that deal with technology on some level. The skills they will learn can help them be ready for a job in the future.
Coding is not only a useful skill, but it is also super fun. Dash is used with an iPad or another mobile device. I have hopes to use it as a math extension so kids work harder to finish their work. It will also be used as an incentive to work hard to earn a better grade in math.
