My students come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I serve English language learners, students with special needs, low-income and middle-class families, and TAG students. My classroom is truly a melting pot of learners with a variety of needs. My goal as an educator is to meet these kids where they are, build relationships, and inspire them to be the best they can be.
"From little seeds grow mighty trees," a hand-painted phrase on my classroom wall, serves as a powerful reminder of the potential that each of my students possesses.
I want my students to realize that they can make a positive impact in their community and the environment around them. To achieve this, I spent hours transforming my room into a national park to motivate my students to put down their electronic devices and look up! It's time they see the world around them and go on an educational adventure.
My Project
I am trying to find ways to enrich my classroom environment. I can still remember my first years of teaching when my students and I enjoyed a live hamster for out class pet. Although I know this is a novelty of the past, I still love the idea of having some kind of class pet that serves as a way for the students to connect.
With these Dash and Dot robots, not only will we learn to code, but we can adopt them as our very own class pets to create a sense of community.
The Wonders Pack comes with a launcher, xylophone, building brick extenders, and a set of rabbit ears and tail. Each of these accessories can be used by creating specific code for the robots. I see this as a wonderful opportunity to enrich my students technology abilities along with creating joy at the idea of having our very own robots as class pets. I can only imagine the adventures these robots will go on with my students!
