My students need the Cubetto Coding robot for their daily math and reading centers.

I teach at a Title 1 school in Alabama. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch each day. Most of my kindergarten students came to me without some of the most basic knowledge, and with very few life experiences. We are hoping to change that!
One of the focuses of our school district is to prepare students for college or a career; in order to do that, these students need to stay in school long enough to graduate.
Computer Programming, or coding, is an activity that could captivate a student's interest and keep them interested in learning. Coding is also a skill that very few people can do well, and there are countless unfilled computer programming positions in the work force. With your help, some of our students may be able to fill those positions one day!
Cubetto is a robot that kindergarten students can program to move around a grid. We plan to use Cubetto not only to teach the basics of coding but also to add a fun activity to reading and math centers.
This coding robot will above everything else, get students excited to learn. We plan to use the robot in reading and math centers every week. The robot can be used for various games as well as promote reading comprehension. Programming the robot to move to a specific destination also takes basic counting skills and spacial awareness.
Cubetto also teaches the fundamental coding skills necessary to move on to more challenging computer programming tasks.
Once students have a firm grasp of how to program this robot, there will be endless possibilities to what they can do on a computer! If this robot gets one student interested in a career as a computer programmer- it could change their life!
