Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from high poverty/low-income families who have not been exposed to many of the cool, amazing things the world has to offer. All of them are filled with curiosity and the eagerness to learn as much as their little minds will allow them to. Hands-on experiences are the best ways to keep these students engaged. Just because these students aren't in the best of neighborhoods doesn't mean that they should be deprived of the many materials offered elsewhere.
My Project
My students will be learning Computer Science this year and coding. They will learn many creative activities to program robots, inputting specific directions and data, teaching their robot to do exactly what the students want them to do. Students will learn about programming through the many curriculum based activities Sphero has to offer. They will learn through coding how to manipulate robots with iPads and how to adjust, calibrate, and modify. The students will be given several challenges to come up with the Spheroballs, to create a game, a maze, or another situation and test their Spheroballs to the limit. This is a fun, engaging, AND educational way to really get the students to learn about movement, lighting, art, coordination, math, reading, and writing. The opportunities with the Spheroball are limitless.
