Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing fourth graders, who deserve the very best! They are fun, energetic and creative, and I love to showcase their spectacular talents. The school where I teach is considered "high poverty," so some students do not have the same opportunities as others. Everyone qualifies for free lunch in the Title I program.
Despite our economic challenges, our community is very supportive and makes our little school a great place to learn!
Although my students are not diverse in race and background, they are all creative by nature and very different in the way they learn. Our urban school is located in a community that supports the arts, STEM, and extracurricular activities. Many students come into school looking forward to simple things like taking a photo, singing a song, or getting a hello from a friend. For some of them, this interaction is the only positive part of their day.
My Project
Our school is on a mission to become STEAM certified. We are changing our collective mindset to make sure that our teaching taps into the curiosity kids have for technology. We are honing our students' 21st Century Skills at a young age while promoting math, science, engineering, and art learning. My students need the materials in the Wonder Workshop Kit, coding task cards, launchers, and coding book to learn to program the Dash and Dot robots and dive into their technology driven world. We will play music, design and run mazes, and even challenge other classrooms with our own programming Olympics. We can't wait!
Our tech-driven world requires that we change our traditional teaching and bring more innovative projects into our students' hands.
Technology is everywhere and can be used to create a better world for everyone. My students are capable and curious learners that can use these robots to analyze, design, and solve like professionals. Please help us deepen our knowledge of 21st Century Skills by supporting this technology project. Thank you!
