My Students

I currently teach first grade. The students are excited every day to be in school. The students come from low-income households. At school, I want to give them every opportunity to learn and explore. They love that they are learning to add and subtract in math. Also, students are currently beginning to read! This is very exciting and they try and read everything they can from posters to books.

The children and families in our school community are a diverse cross-section of many different cultures, ethnic groups, and languages.

We have an English as a Second Language Program. We educate children from 24 different countries, who speak 15 different languages. The students speak Bosnian, Spanish, Arabic, Albanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Sudanese, Somalian, Swahili, French, Kirundi, Bantu, Burmese, Vietnamese, Nepali, and Mai-Mai.

My Project

STEM is the culmination of science, technology, engineering and math in a lesson. Teaching STEM to younger students can often be challenging because of their age. Using Botley and Code & Go Robot Mouse will enhance their understanding of problem-solving and coding with live action from Botley and Code & Go Robot Mouse.

Botley and Code & Go Robot Mouse teaches the basics of coding through active play, completely screen-free, which is great for promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Students will use Botley and Code & Go Robot Mouse remote programmer to detect objects and avoid them, follow looping commands, navigate obstacle courses and follow along a course. Students enjoy the use of a robot in the classroom, they will not only bring them joy but also teach them about coding and critical thinking.
