Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is never a dull moment in our classroom. What I love most about my students is how respectful they are of each other. Our class discussions are always so enriching because they feel safe in our classroom community sharing ideas with their peers.
Providing access to meaningful learning materials is one of the best ways I can support students.
It can be very difficult to get help for materials in our neighborhood because some of our families are more worried about being able to put food on the table. I use Donors Choose as a way to give my students the learning opportunities they deserve.
My Project
We need robotics and robotics accessories to spark their imaginations. The materials I am requesting in this project will help build my students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Having the ability to use robotic technology in my classroom is a way that I can help prepare students for the careers of the future. I am planning to use the Sphero and Dash robots in a shared way in order to build my students’ capacity for effective collaboration.
Sphero and Dash open up brand new opportunities to practice collaboration and problem-solving, key skills to being successful in today's (and tomorrow's) world.
Another way that I would like to use the materials is as a reward for students. I am planning to use these robot coding opportunities as a way to motivate. For example, if a student reaches a learning goal, they can reward themselves with time to code our class robot. This is a way I can keep my students motivated that really reflects what they are interested in. They won’t even realize how much they are learning!
