My student population is uniquely diverse in the Dallas area. We have many nationalities, cultures, and abilities in our charter school. Being a charter school, our students choose to come to our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) based school. We are a Title 1 school with students that exemplify to be the best of the best. Many of our students are on free or reduced lunches.

Our school is in its third year of having a coding class. The students enjoy coming to coding because it is new and different. My students love coming to my class where other core subjects are needed. They do tasks and see programs come to life right in front of them! Computer science jobs will be the need of the future, so introducing coding skill to children early in their schooling shows them an exciting job in their future.
My Project
My project will put different activities in my students hands that teach them about coding and computer science in ways that young learners can understand. They will start with basic directions that can later be shown to have a unique language that makes the toys move.
Computer programming is where many jobs will be in the future.
Having said this it is very important to introduce coding at a young age. As my students move up in grade they can remember what toys we used to teach basic coding and show them the different languages that make those toys work.
