During the week, I have the opportunity to work with over 100 students who have been identified as gifted learners. Each day of the week, we service a different grade level. Our gifted students are able to participate in a resource, pull-out program that offers a day filled with hands-on and engaging projects that challenges them to think critically and creatively.
It is important for me to ensure that the instant a student enters my class, they are given meaningful opportunities to enrich their learning in a fun and engaging environment.
My Project
Recently our students had an amazing opportunity while on a field trip at a local university. They were introduced to creating and coding with LEGO Education's We Do 2.0 creation kits. They worked in pairs to create and then code "battle bots". Then they had a ball cheering for their new creations in the battle arena. The student engagement level was 100%!
The new engineering and coding skills that will be acquired by creating with LEGO Education kits will help prepare our students for the jobs of the future.
We all know that today's students will need an advanced understanding of technology to do the jobs of tomorrow. Introducing them to coding at an early age will help them become leaders in the technology-filled world they will live in.
In addition to teaching coding skills, lessons taught using these kits will reinforce science topics and inspire students to think both critically and creatively. Working with a partner or small group, our little engineers will practice using the "engineering process" as they imagine, plan, create, test, and improve their new inventions.
