My Coding class is full of eager 11 to 14-year-olds eager to learn about coding and how they can make a difference in our world, understanding more about the careers they can choose to be in computer science, such as a Software Engineer. Additionally, students are learning about coding through the mindset of a web designer and animator. In my classroom, we abide to RESPECT, where students show Respect, use Eye Contact, Stay on Task, Pay Attention, Energy, Caring towards one another, and Trust. These are the foundations of our room. We constantly praise one another and provide encouraging words of positivity.
They constantly seek one another if they need help with something in class.
My students are always digging for more information and are always ready to learn. I take such pride in this as it makes me a better teacher because I am always striving to find more opportunities for them that provide that extra knowledge that they so desire. They are very energetic, motivated, and intuitive and are a JOY to teach!
My Project
The micro:bit kit is the latest trend, and it will allow students to think critically as well as think like a programmer. In class, students are learning all about the elements of programming, the different languages of Coding, as well as the process of writing code. Consequently, micro:bit will put all the learning together.
By having the micro:bits, students will be able to get hands-on practice of being an engineer as well as programmer.
Learning will ultimately become project based as students will be able to create and have ownership of a coding project. Therefore, having tactile learning experiences will help make learning more meaningful.
