Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I serve an urban South Austin school where a large portion of our population comes from two low-income assisted housing communities. Most of my students love technology. I would like to introduce my students to the world of coding. Helping students to see behind the curtain of some of thier favorite computer and video games. We will use a variety of coding programs to teach coding in order to develop basic coding skill to create puzzles, program robots, and build games.
My Project
As kindergarten students we are learning how to problem solve both with the assistance of an adult on independently. I will help my students work through any problems as they arise with the use of hands on activities involving coding. We are currently using the programs that are available to us through Hour of Code. I would like to take it one step further and give students the opportunity to take the abstract coding we do online and apply it in a more age appropriate manner that students will understand better. I know for my students when they are able to physically manipulate materials they are able to develop a deeper and more concrete understanding.
