Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a group of Kindergartners that are eager little learners. They are learning to count, read and write but more so they are learning critical thinking skills. In our classroom, we work together in groups and share with each other often. We seek out evidence and analyze on a daily basis. Since they are a fun bunch, full of energy, movement time is what they enjoy most of all.
My students, although they come from a poor social economic background, deserve the best.
My classroom mostly consists of English Language Learners. Some have just arrived in America with no prior schooling or exposure to English but it doesn't stop their drive and motivation. Their eagerness to learn surprises me daily as I get to witness the speed in which they begin to understand the English Language. Communicating what they know is their favorite part because they can do so through drawings, technology, sharing with peers and expressing themselves through gestures and movement.
My Project
My students will enter the world of coding and forever be impacted. The Bee Bots will teach my kindergartners to work collaboratively in a group setting. They will have the opportunity to create routes, design the actions of the Bee-bot and tie it into a story created by them. They will also be using math skills to calculate steps.
Through coding the Bee Bots my kindergartners will develop a growth mindset and learn problem-solving skills.
As they code the Bee-Bot through a maze that they create, they will be developing language skills as well. Interacting with peers and collaborating with one another to face the challenge set before them.
