I teach in a small, urban school with a diverse population. I teach all students in grades K-4 on a weekly basis. All of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and more than forty percent come from homes where English is not the primary language.
My students are eager learners and thrive in my classroom when I present hands-on learning activities.
My primary focus is teaching Science and Social Studies to help build background knowledge and vocabulary. I try to provide experiences that these students might not otherwise have.
My Project
My plan is to provide my students in grades K-2 with some hands-on coding opportunities with the newly introduced Botley Robotic Coding Kits. According to the manufacturer, Learning Resources, these kits "introduce coding in an easy and friendly way". The kits are designed to allow students to progress from basic navigational functions to advanced features, and thus will provide opportunities for me to differentiate learning.
These hands-on coding kits are sure to spark curiosity and engagement in learning!
Working in partnerships, my students will not only build coding skills, but will also:
develop key skills for their future
have opportunities to construct knowledge
develop teamwork skills
address technology standards
develop problem-solving and analytical skills
be encouraged to persist and persevere
develop collaboration and communication skills
Any help you can offer with this exciting project would be greatly appreciated!
