My classroom consists of 17 amazing and diverse kindergartners. I have students with backgrounds from all around the world and 6 different languages represented. My students also have a wide range of academic abilities.
All of the students in my class began their school year in a different classroom.
I began my school year student teaching in a 1st-grade classroom at a different elementary school. However, it was determined that there was a need for another kindergarten classroom so I decided to take the opportunity to finish student teaching as a paid intern. My class was made by pulling students from the 6 other kindergarten classes at my school. Since this class was created 9 weeks into the school year, we are in a room that is not meant to be a classroom. For this reason, space is very limited so every inch matters. Storage has become incredibly important to maintaining an organized and functioning classroom.
My Project
My students love to participate in hands-on learning. A great way to learn about computers is to participate in coding with robotics. Bee-bots are awesome because they allow students to code their bees to go through obstacle courses.
Math should be fun.
Students' attitudes towards math can often be negative due to feelings of math being too hard, however making math fun with an activity such as robotics, students will be more engaged and less likely to feel as though math is not fun.
I would love to bring robotics into my classroom as a fun way to teach coding and math.
