My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Every morning we sing a good morning song to help them know that today and everyday is going to be a good day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
Over 3/4 of my class is enrolled in our free and reduced price lunch program.
I also have a large minority group in my classroom. In our school, we have 19 regular education classroom ranging from grade 1-4 and 2 SPED classrooms. We are located in a rural community.
Many of my students receive backpack food for the weekend, and our school also runs a food pantry for our families and several of my students visit also. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can.
My Project
I have always been passionate about STEM and the positives it brings to my students. STEM activities are challenging, engaging and set the students up for success in all academic areas. The problem I have always run into with incorporating STEM is the financial cost, as my district does not have the funds to spend on bringing the materials needed for STEM to my classroom.
I love that each week in my classroom we get to have STEM and coding time and I am ready to bring more materials into my classroom.
I am asking for three Sphero SPRK+ in order to have more STEM activities for the class. The requested Spheros will be used by students for coding, designing, and solving STEM challenges.
Spheros are great because they will teach all of my students that coding is important because it teaches students basic programming. Spheros will relate to those games they love to play and to their everyday lives. Spheros will get my students engaged and they will thrive on learning how to program while learning how to code. Spheros are a fun technology tool that I see my students wanting to use every time they have our hour of STEM in our classroom.
