I need this trip so that I can better incorporate STEAM lessons into my classroom. This professional development will allow me to further my coding skills while incorporating my arts background.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a middle school drama teacher who is happily learning to code. The majority of my day is spent teaching students the fundamentals of theatre. However, I do teach a few sections of coding. This opportunity has been a challenging yet rewarding experience.
The intersection of these subjects excites me and has given me an opportunity to learn more about myself, and my students.
In both my classrooms, I emphasize the need to learn 21st-century life skills like communication, citizenship, and community. When possible I strive to create lessons that incorporate both coding and theatre. These lessons are always a big success with my students because they can relate to the material more.
My Project
I am very grateful to be able to teach theatre at the middle school level. The theatre has always been a passion of mine but I am always looking to learn a new skill. I've never been afraid of a challenge! So, when my school was in need of a coding teacher, I stepped up.
The Pathfinder Institute is offering a unique experience to a unique teacher.
As both an arts and coding teacher, the Arts in Motion course offered through the Pathfinder Institute sets out to help teachers explore STEAM in the classroom. This experience will be invaluable to me, and I know that my students (both coding and theatre) will benefit.
