Coding for the Future

Help me give my students the experiences that will help prepare them for a technological future. Coding will be a big part of this generation's future and having these robots to assist will be a great opportunity!

My Students

We are a Title I school due to the economic factors of our students. School, for some of our students, means, food, heat or cool, and safety. Many of our students are kinesthetic learners; therefore, we plan lots of hands-on and creative activities.

Our school system encourages students to use technology tools such as iPads and computers, but we are also raising our expectations so that our students will use them in more innovative and creative ways.

The majority of our students either do not have these items in the home and/or deal with not having access to the internet, which limits what they are able to do. I guess that is why, when we are going to use iPads or computers in the school, most of them really get excited.

Over 20% of our students are from military homes, and many of our students are constantly transient from one school to another, but our numbers stay about the same as far as enrollment.

Our students love to learn new skills and get excited about new and creative activities!

My Project

My students do not have many experiences to learn and/or to use coding, and I feel that to prepare them for the future, they need this skill. Coding can begin with very young students to learn and practice many standards and objectives.

We can begin with kindergarten to teach the letters and sounds and move on up to our fourth and fifth graders to learn about the states.

The coding experiences will allow for students to actively practice their knowledge and allow the teacher to see which students need more assistance with the skill.

The use of the robots will provide fun but educational experiences that will spark the interest of our students that might lead them to better enjoy Science and Math. Many times students take more of an interest in an area of expertise when they have experienced it and had fun using and learning the skill.

Jobs and career choices that these students will have opportunity for will require knowledge in the use of technology tools and I feel that these experiences will give our students a jumpstart in their interest into these areas.
