Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When people think of education, the first words that come to mind are: math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Where is computer science? Computer Science is considered a new "basic skill" necessary for economic opportunity and social mobility!
My school serves students who come from a variety of home environments, some with technology and some without.
My school has never had a coding program or a robotics program. My 4th grade students are hardworking, but lack the opportunity to experience what the world of coding and programming can offer them.
My Project
My students will learn the basics of coding using the color code program with each Ozobot. While learning how to use the Ozobots, my students will have the opportunity to practice 21 century learning skills: creativity, collaborating, communicating, and critical thinking.
We live in a world where technology is all around us, but the understanding of how that technology is created or works, is unknown.
By using Ozobots students will be inspired to look beyond what technology does, but how it is created. By teaching them coding, they are given the opportunity to explore the idea of pursuing a a career in technology, regardless of gender.
