Help me give my students a Sphero robotic ball, Makey Makey invention kits and Artie coding robots to enhance and continue developing their understanding of computer science skills (coding) with real world applications.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds with different experiences that influence who they are becoming. Each student brings unique qualities to our classroom that enriches our learning community and brings our classroom to life.
One thing all my students share, is a love for learning.
My students come each day interested and full of questions about the world. They are curious and determined to solve problems, connect their learning to the world, and empower and support each other. My job is to expand their knowledge and dig deeper with the content to help strengthen their future opportunities.
My Project
The Makey Makey invention kits, Sphero robotic balls, and Artie robots will allow students to engage and strengthen their understanding of computer science and coding standards. Students will be able to create and test various designs using these tangible devices by creating real would outcomes. During the creation and testing of these devices, students will also be engaged in real world problem solving. When codes and application of ideas are tested, students will collaborate and problem solve their designs each time the tools are used. Students will strengthen their understanding of commands and sequencing codes along with more complex tasks involving looping and if then statements.
These robotic tools will not only deepen students understanding of coding, but they can also be used to engage and enhance additional content within the classroom.
Students from Pre-K through fifth grade will be able to use Spheros, Arties, and Makey Makeys to better understand geometry by creating shapes, or retelling stories with coded pathways, and during mapping skills to show the Oregon Trail and the movement westward. Use of these tools will capture the students attention and excite them about any topic they are learning about.
