Coding For Our Future

My students need hands on coding materials that will help them learn to collaborate with others, develop problem-solving skills, and persist through difficult tasks. They will study programming concepts, computational thinking, and digital citizenship.

My Students

My students live in one of the most impoverished counties in Tennessee as well as the United States. My students live in a very isolated area that has few job opportunities for their families. My students love to read and learn new things. They enjoy learning new things in new ways.

Hands-on learning is one of the most effective well received approaches with my students.

Limited resources in our community also is a problem for my students and their families.

My Project

My students will study Coding - programming concepts, computational thinking, digital citizenship, and develop interactive games or stories they can share. This will be accomplished through age-appropriate games aimed at teaching Hancock County Elementary School students coding concepts. Teaching students to create and make with code will be essential in getting technology jobs in the future. These jobs will become increasingly important to isolated places such as Hancock County. Through these resources students will explore and share resources and strategies, including activities, games, and apps, for teaching kids programming skills and computer science concepts. Coding is the future of rural areas such as our county.
