My students are so excited about learning, especially when it involves STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
I work with students at all grade levels in the STEM areas.
We are a Title 1 School with students who are diverse both economically and culturally. We are a STEM school to try and help all students achieve and to close the achievement gap. We use STEM to engage students in learning across the content areas and to help them question and think critically.
My Project
We will use these iPads in so many ways. They will primarily be used to help teach students computer science skills. There are apps on the iPad for teaching coding. We will also be piloting a robotics program and the robots can be programmed on the iPads. Students will also be able to do research, make videos and take pictures with the iPads.
Only 10 percent of American schools teach computer science.
Even fewer teach it in elementary school. Every child can benefit from learning to create code and programs because it is helping students to problem-solve and use critical thinking skills. These skills are transferrable across all subject areas. A background and interest in computer science is a gateway to success in our country. I want to help kids get interested and stay interested in this field.
