Help me give my students Raspberry Pi computers! They are an innovative way to bring coding to a classroom using extra an extra monitor, keyboard and mouse.
My students have a love for learning new ways to integrate coding into their learning. Coding is a huge push in our district, because we want to ensure that our students have many avenues to pursue after graduation. Computer Science is a fast growing network that is opening doors for students that might have had limited opportunities in the past.
We have a growing Computer Science program that incorporates coding, 3D printing, and robotics.
Adding Raspberry Pi coding to our curriculum would add another element that allows my student students better understand Python, Java and C++ programming languages. This will give them another avenue to peruse after high school.
My Project
We are on our second year of Computer Science in our district. To enhance learning, we need to bring coding down to lower levels. Not just coding that is drag and drop, but actually typing in what the students want as an output. To do this you will need computers and internet access. We have that, but limited to iPads and computer labs right now. So what can we do if the iPads and computer labs are in use? Raspberry Pi! We have the accessories that we need to get coding, but lack the system.
Raspberry Pi is a credit card sized computer that allows students to hook into wifi and access coding programs from any classroom in the building.
They can code in Python, Java and C++ languages. Learning these languages at a younger age will allow us to open more doors for our students in the future.
