My students need Dash & Dot robots with accessories (Wonder Pack), mini-tablets for programming, Ozobot robots, white roll paper, drawing paper, and markers.
Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. Robotics programming is fun and engaging for students!
My students are full of imagination and creativity.
They ask intriguing questions and are always wondering "how" and "why." They seek to make connections and make sense of the world around them.
Our school is moving into our second year of transforming into a STEAM focus school. We are implementing Project-Based Learning activities and focus on guiding questions which inspire our students to think beyond the ordinary. Our students are active and engaged. Our students are seeking to build and learn collaborative teamwork skills. Our students are risk takers. Our students will implement the design process and reflect on their design to revise and make improvements.
Our school is committed to integrate robotics programming and computer science coding into our curriculum. Many of our staff members have already been trained through the "Hour of Code" face to face professional development program. Our students are excited and motivated to create code!
My Project
Imagine the feeling of satisfaction and success if you were build a 3D maze out of blocks and then use a mini-tablet to program a robot to navigate through the maze! The cheers and shouts of achievement roar through the classroom as the robot reaches the finish line! Kindergartners can do this! The Ozobots and Dash and Dot robots are fun and inviting for students to interact with. Robotics programming allows students to use their imagination and creativity to bring an object to life.
Movement is interactive, and kids need to interact with the world around them. Through the process of coding, students learn valuable life skills. Coding requires persistence, perseverance, and creative problem-solving skills. Robotics programming requires attention to detail, and communication skills, and following directions is essential. It's the ultimate task of trial and error. Students build up stamina and increase their perseverance as they strive to complete the design challenges; creating intrinsic motivation and building self-confidence.
My student population is very diverse; there is a national movement, through Hour of Code, to provide more opportunities for students to engage in computer science programming.
The robotics focus, at an early age, exposes my students to the world of coding through games and challenges that are fun! My project provides all students, regardless of their ethnic, social, or economic background with the opportunity to participate in coding.
