The basic facts are that in my district I teach at three different elementary schools. My students span a wide range of grade levels from kindergarten to fifth grade totaling approximately 688 students give or take. Like many districts we have limited resources and technology supplies are generally the first to be removed. However, those are the basic facts, or stats, of my student population; but who are they and what will they become are the real questions.
My students are creators, inventors, and world changers.
Each and every single time we learn together, we try together, we fail together, and succeed together. When in my room we celebrate our failures just as much as our successes. I will always remember the time I looked at one of my first-grade students and said “Wow! You failed so hard!” Now, many of you may have just gasped wondering why would you say something like that. However, that same child’s response was, “Yeah, I did and it was awesome!” Those are my students; the proud, creative, world changers of today and tomorrow. All they need is an opportunity to find their area to shine.
My Project
New technological tools are being created with each passing day from computers to self-driving cars the innovations are endless. However, behind each of these creations is coding and a coder. Coding may one day become part of our everyday lives.
My goal as a technology teacher is to inspire young students to further explore the realm of coding.
I want to empower my students to create, develop, and problem solve in a block coding environment. Even though I use free resources to help in this endeavor I lack ones to help students dive deeper into this world of imagination. Books like Coding Games in Scratch: A Step-by-Step Visual Guide to Building Your Own Computer Games and Coding Projects in Scratch: A Step-by-Step Visual Guide to Coding Your Own Animations, Games, Simulations,... will act as a guide into the world of creation. Are you ready to support a more creative world?
