Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are motivated and eager to learn. They enjoy being read to, and after they have heard books read to them, they enjoy reading them on their own. They enjoy literature and discussing books. They have a wonderful knack for connecting personal experiences with the literature they have read. They are learning a second language and developing their vocabulary every day. My end in mind is to develop the love of reading that will take my students on great adventures.
I teach 24 first grade, second language learners who are living in a low-income community in Los Angeles.
Our school is a Title I school with students from preschool to fifth grade. At our school, we strive to instill the idea in our students that they are thinkers, leaders, and change-makers. We are the first Leader in Me school in our area, and we are very proud to be developing Thinkers, Leaders and Change Makers!
My Project
I recently spent a vacation day learning how to use Robots in my classroom to teach my students how to code. They will use these robots to start learning all about coding. It will be the first step for them to get inspired to learn to code a skill that will be useful for a long time to come.
I am requesting five Cosmo Jam Coding kits and six Wonder Workshop Robot xylophones for our Dash robots.
The Cosmo Jam coding kits will help my students explore coding.
They will use coding blocks and create music beats while coding, make music while learning patterns and problem-solving. The xylophones will also help my students begin to code in a fun and exciting way. They can learn to program the robot to play music on the xylophones. They will learn to create patterns, use timing, and rhythm.
They will also work collaboratively with their peers and problem solve when they need to. I am sure it is going to be as exciting for them as it was for me to be able to bring these robots into the classroom to work with throughout the curriculum.
