My students come from a small community in Southern Missouri. We have an outstanding school with great community support, but limited financial resources at our disposal. My students are amazing, meeting or exceeding the expectations of the district and state. They have a positive can-do attitude that is unsurpassed!
Can you imagine how small the world can be when you have never traveled outside of the 20 mile radius of your school?
This is a reality for the majority of our students who are in our free or reduced lunch program, who have minimal to non-existent technology at home, and many times have not traveled outside of our community.
As their teacher, I am determined to make every minute they spend in the classroom count! I want to give them the whole world, exposing them to other cultures, other classrooms, other ways of communicating so they will have a positive impact on everyone's future. I would be failing them if I were not doing my best to give them the same tools that more affluent communities have. Every child matters, and many great leaders had humble beginnings. I ask that you join me in making this happen.
My Project
Gaining access to devices that help kindergarten students learn early coding is the primary goal of this project. With your help, they will become better critical thinkers, problem solvers and "makers" of the future! Every child deserves the chance to work with the latest, most innovative learning tools. Budget constraints should not be a factor in helping our students plan for a bright future.
Early experiences in coding leads to stronger skills in reading, math, science and social studies.
Students become expert collaborators as they work together to manipulate a mini-computer (robot). Coding is, after all, "the ability to tell a computer what to do". Skills learned in this process will provide a strong foundation for learning as students grow.
Your donation allows our students to work with the most innovative tools to prove they are among the brightest and best in the nation.
