Help me give my students Sphero Mini Robot balls, a Sphero Mini activity set, Sphero Nubby and Turbo Covers, paint, and a craft paper roll for coding art projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a middle/high school in an urban area; we focus on educating our students to become great leaders and citizens. Students are celebrated for exhibiting our school's core values-integrity, scholarship, citizenship, perseverance, and sustainability. My students learn best through real-world application, hands-on activities, and authentic experiences. I teach students with diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds. My students are in various grade levels, but they all thrive when they get to "do" science!
For the 2019-2020 school year, I am teaching Forensic Science, Independent Study -- Science, and Introduction to Research Methods.
Forensic Science is a popular course with students. The Independent Study -- Science and Introduction to Research Methods courses are new for my school. Hands-on activities and laboratory investigations help my students to learn and apply concepts.
Many of our students want to go into the medical field. Having experiences dealing with independent studies and research in high school will better prepare them for their future colleges and careers choices. I am so excited to be teaching these courses!
My Project
For this project, students will combine their creativity and developing coding skills using Sphero robot balls and paint to create abstract art. There are three levels of coding available using Sphero, which students can self-select as they master coding skills. Sphero allows students to discover, explore, and create through a variety of lessons and activities. These lessons and activities will give students opportunities for collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking, and more! The Sphero Nubby and Turbo covers will protect the Sphero from damage as it rolls through the paint.
Integrating art and science allows students to develop and refine multiple skills while engaging them in the learning process.
The paint and craft paper will be used to create abstract art. Students will be given the opportunity to use black light paints and black light bars for an additional level of engagement.
