My Students

We are centrally located on the edge of urban and suburban neighborhoods.

We have a very diverse ethnic student population including 50.6% Black, 19.7% Hispanic, 20.5% White, and 8% Multi-racial. We also have the highest immigrant population of any school in our district. As of the 2015-2016 school year, 74.2% of our students qualify for free lunch and 10.8% for reduced-price lunch.

My Project

My students need two robotic sphere robots to help them practice their coding skills. I teach computer science to two different elementary schools in my school district. The computer science program is a new program to our district and I am looking to increase engagement in the new skills we are learning by having our upper grades learn how to code robots.

These robots will allow my students to learn how to problem solve and persevere.

The idea is to set up mazes and to have student code the robots to complete the maze. It will take students several tries to successfully code the robots and complete the challenges.
