Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My elementary school is located in the center of our district. The majority of students are bussed to and from school. About 73% of the students qualify for free and reduced breakfast and lunches. Most homes, feeding into the school, are apartments with a few neighborhoods of stand alone housing. The community at the school, is highly diverse, with many cultures and languages spoken at home, other than English. Standing in the busy halls of the school, many languages can be heard spoken by, not just the students, but staff as well. Many of the student in my class are English language learners.
My Project
Hummingbird Kits are an amazing way to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math or STEAM into everyday learning. Students can use the Hummingbird Kits to create simple machines to animate and connect their learning through stimulating and exciting activities. Imagine students learning about the muscles used in elephants trunk to drink water, creating an elephant using recycled materials, then program a Hummingbird Servo to actually simulate the movements of the elephant's trunk!
Students are most engaged in learning when they are given the freedom to create and explore concepts that bridge multiple subjects.
With these Hummingbird Kits, my students will have more opportunities for hands on learning projects that will push their thinking and creativity.
