Help me give my students an opportunity to gain experience with coding in a fun and engaging way. The Ozobots allow students to develop understanding and creativity working together to make the robot perform.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fifth grade at a Title One school. My students are amazing, and curious and want to learn. The come into fifth grade without a lot of science background, but fifth grade curriculum is fascinating, and they love the experiments. They don't have a lot of opportunities outside school to experiment and discover on their own, but are bright and eager.
Teacher-led experiments give them some background, but real learning takes place with hands-on, self-directed wondering and tinkering.
Students constantly surprise me with questions they wonder about, and surprise themselves when they can discover the answer by trial and error. That is the kind of learning that truly sticks.
My Project
Students love to build and tinker and they learn more through this exploration than they do with direct instruction. My students will be able to use the Tinkering Labs Robotics supplies to work cooperatively. They will be able to choose their own task, follow instructions or be creative, and follow through the building and testing of multiple projects.
The Ozobots allow students to learn to code in a fun and engaging way.
Coding is such an important skill, but can seem intimidating. When is it simply the way to make your robot go, it seems more applicable, and will encourage perseverance. Dreaming up new and unique ways to test the Ozobots will stimulate creativity, building on the basics provided, and branching off from what other classmates have done.
Students will be eager to "play," not realizing that they are teaching themselves and their peers through group discussion and scientific exploration.
