Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in New York. Most of our students come from low-income families. Our class is an ICT (integrated co-teaching) classroom which provides supports to students with disabilities. The disabilities range from speech-language to autism. An ICT classroom has both general education students and special education students who work in groups to help each other. We use all the resources that are possible and given to us to help our students make progress.
Our students work hard with all the resources and materials that they have.
We enjoy seeing our students working together in partnerships.
My Project
My students are learning about computer science and working on unplugged and plugged activities. We are the first class in the whole school to learn computer science and we are learning together. We have limited resources and we would love to have more resources to help us learn how to code. My students will be working in groups to learn how to code through unplugged activities. Unplugged activities are activities that we do not use the computer or internet for. These materials will allow us to work in groups to code a mouse or caterpillar.
The codeapillar will be a great source to use and make move around the classroom through coding.
The students will be coding and not even know that they are because they will be having fun with the materials at hand. Students will also use Code and Go Robot mouse to make the mouse move. This will teach my students to make sure that they put all the steps in order. They will work in sequence and make sure their steps are correct. They will debug if they are wrong and work together to fix it.
