Coding Across the Curriculum

My students need Ozobots to incorporate computer coding across the curriculum to engage students in STEM learning as well as core curriculum.

My Students

Coding is often thought to be just something that you do in a computer class or an engineering class--but it is not. My students have become interested in it in English class.

My students have started to realize the many options they have available to them through careers that involve technology even as we study American literature.

Our school has limited funds for technology, so we depend on the support of the public to fund innovation to bring coding to the classroom.

My Project

With the increased emphasis in STEM curriculum, it can be difficult to find ways to make connections for students in non-STEM areas, such as English or history. We have found the Ozobots to be a great way to engage students and give them opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of an area. Students have taken to them and we are now using Blockly coding, which also introduces students to JAVA coding.

Coding requires clear and specific directions, critical thinking, communication and creative thinking.

This is easy to incoporate into an ELA classroom in ways that other STEM activities are not.

We have a small number of Ozobots already, but it would be ideal to have a classroom set so that students can do more trial and error without having to wait their turn for a robot. These 10 Ozobots will be added to the 16 we already have and will make that more possible.
