My students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures from high financial need to those who are not in need. My school doesn't qualify for Title I services, even though a percentage of my students qualify for some financial assistance. I teach in a suburban school in Texas. My students are very excited learners, willing to jump in and learn new things.
I teach in a relatively new school with a beautiful environment for learning, but my students are interested in what is out there and what they will be using when they leave the classroom.
Therefore, I want to encourage STEM careers and learning excitement through cooperative work environments. I also want to help raise and educate my students in their personal financial literacy building on a classroom economy. I am educating our future leaders, workers, and professionals and want to give them every advantage. Help me to make them successful mathematicians and scientists!
My Project
My students love to use technology in the classroom. We will use Sphero and Cubetto to learn to code on an iPad. Students will be able to code the cute robots and learn so many fantastic things while doing it. My students love to use technology in the classroom. Students will use Cubetto for digital storytelling and problem solving using the mats that come with the robot and a Space mat to tie in or science lessons. With Sphero we will be able to learn to code him and work him through a maze we write stories about. Also with both robots and the Code to Color kit we can put the A into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) education to give the class means of creative expression.
These robots and iPad will enhance the learning in the classroom by learning 21st century skills needed for the future job market and help my ADHD students remain on task and focused.
We will be using the robots in math and literacy to tell stories and solve problems, social studies to learn about maps, science when we learn about space, and math for directional and positional vocabulary and knowledge. We will also expand on our activities by writing and explaining the steps. I know that Sphero and Cubetto will be a huge part of our daily work in the classroom. My students already love the taste they have had in coding during our Hour of Code lessons but this will excite them in many subjects and for their future. It is important to me that all my students are successful and through the use of the robots I feel that all students especially my ADHD ones will be able to take part, stay focused, and learn for their futures.
