Code the Mice

Help me give my students an opportunity to learn coding using coding mice and then use that coding to write codes that will help them practice math skills.

My Students

I teach at a Title I elementary school that is over 80 years old. We lack many of the modern technologies of today's world. Over 95% of my students receive either free or reduced-price lunch.

My students put in a lot of effort to attend my school.

It is a medical magnet school so they ride a bus for over an hour to get to our school servicing students from all over the community including military families. We only have about 300 students so we are small and don't have the resources that a larger school might have.

My Project

Many of my students are grade levels behind in math. Because of this deficit they lack motivation to get caught up. These coding mice would be used to excite students to learn how to code the mice first. This develops problem solving skills, cooperation as a teach and working together as well as spatial reasoning.

Once students have learned how to code the mice, they will be given tasks to use to code the mice to move in certain directions following a skip counting by 3 path or a answer these word problems and follow the path of the answer, or pick the vocabulary words that match these definitions.

This will help develop math skills in students as well.
