Our school is a Leader in Me school that strives to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. We are also a school with a dual-language program; my students strive to find and be their best selves. The students in my class strive for excellence. They all inherently care about one another and continually, make an effort to improve in all aspects.
I hold high expectations for my students; I believe that students will rise to the level of expectation you hold for them.
My hope is that when students leave my classroom, they will leave knowing someone cared about them. I want them to find that love of learning that comes inherent in any child, but needs to be cultivated to grow.
My Project
As our world is flooded with technology, our students need completely different skills then they did even 20 years ago. They need to be able to think critically about the world around them. Any time we can find ways for our students to learn while having fun, that is an activity to hold on to. When a child doesn't realize they are learning, because they are playing, they retain more than they ever would by listening to a lecture.
Students need to ask questions about the world around them and endeavor to find the answers for themselves.
I used to think coding was too advanced for 7-8 year olds until we got the game Code Masters. Every single student, no matter their ability level, was completely intrigued and determined to beat the code and move up levels. I've had students ask to stay in from recess so they can beat a level. Since Code Masters is a single player game, I wanted to get a couple extra so I can have a small group playing together. After doing a lot of research, I've found quite a few other games that will hopefully contain the intrigue my students found with Code Master.
Coder Bunnyz, Potato Pirates, Playz, Chocolate Fix, Clue Master, and Proof are a few of the games I'm hoping will engage my students in the coding process.
