Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Danielle Rupp once said, "You can't tell just by looking at someone what they are dealing with inside."
Every day, especially in the context of the pandemic and social uprising, witnessing my students lead with empathy, joy, and friendship reminds me the importance of creating safe, healing spaces for each other.
A space that celebrates happiness, mutual aid, and offers an understanding of how we relate to each other and the world.
My Project
With the upcoming holiday and winter season, Cocoa with the Counselors project was created as an opportunity for students to pause and reflect, look forward and anticipate the new year, and destigmatize mental health. Cocoa with the Counselors project aims to build positive rapport and community with students, especially with students who may be experiencing social burnout, socio-emotional stress, and/or hardships outside of school. Through this project, we hope students feel safe, welcomed, and comfortable to reach out to any school personnel on the counseling and wellness team to check-in/chat.
