Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each day, my students face challenges, before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households, where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters.
Despite these challenges, my students come to school each day, and I do my best to provide an emotionally supportive environment to foster academic success.
I have a very charming new student at my school who has immigrated to our country from the Dominican Republic and is in need of a Spring coat.
My Project
I am a Social Worker at a South Bronx middle school seeking funding for a charming new student who has immigrated from the Dominican Republic last week.
Spring has sprung and yet the weather in the early morning hours when students come to school is still chilly.
This new student to our country comes each day without a coat. The weather in the morning hours is a low 50 degrees and frequently raining. This student is entering the school building in a short sleeved shirt. He is cold and his parents don't have the financial means to buy him coats for the cold weather.
I am seeking funding for coats for all seasons so that he is not in the same situation when winter and fall arrive.
