We are an economically disadvantaged school in Virginia in which 100% our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are also a federally designated Title I school. Most of the students in my classroom come from lower income households with only one parent.
Regardless of their backgrounds, they all have an unending thirst for knowledge and crave hands-on learning activities, to which they have little exposure.
They come into school each day excited and ready to learn. My goal as a kindergarten teacher is for my students to walk out each day loving school and excited to come back the next day!
My Project
Our classroom is in desperate need of coat hangers for backpacks and coats. Currently with what we have, backpacks and coats end up all over the floor. Before the cold comes, we would love to have coat hangers that keep the coats and backpacks off the floor.
In kindergarten, we want to teach our students the skills necessary to understand and manage their emotions.
In order to do this, we want to spice up our calm-down area. We want this to be a place where children feel comfortable to go on their own when they are feeling sad, upset, or just need a break. With the bean bag and sensory bubblers our hope is that this can be a more inviting area where children are able to come on their own.
