My students need to learn about plants and their pollinators in an authentic environment, so we would like to take a trip to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

My Students

We are a small community school located in a very rural area on the coast of Maine. Many families here make a living through the lobster industry. Our kids know how to work hard, yet over half qualify for free and reduced lunch. At our school, we make sure students' basic needs are met, so that learning is possible. Our community is very proud of our school.

Many of our students don't have the chance to travel far, so class field trips provide a welcome opportunity to expand horizons.

Our school is working to become a certified Expeditionary Learning school, which means we integrate the basic skills of reading, writing, and critical thinking with meaningful experiences focused on science or social studies topics.

My Project

Our students will be studying plants and their anatomy, beginning with seaweed, and then moving to land-based plants. Then we will learn about the nutrition plants offer people, and how to grow them. We will then learn about plant life cycles and grow some of our own plants. We can't learn about plants without learning about pollinators and their significance.

The best way to learn about pollinators is to see them in action among the amazing diversity at the Botanical Gardens.

Our students won't forget the beauty of the place and the important lessons they learn there. It is so important to broaden the horizons of our students. Thank you for your support!
