As a third grade teacher I'd like to provide my students a classroom they can thrive in educationally and emotionally. Some of the students we work with struggle with fully accessing their education due to emotional over load. Our students could use a space where they can be quiet, regain focus, and reset.
According to the article " This Is Your Student's Brain On Trauma" by Mary Ellen Flannery, the research is growing on how mindful tools and mindful space can be used to provide students another way to access their education.
My Project
The teepee, floor cushions, and rug space will support our students when they require a time to reset and refocus. There are times some of our students require a break from their classroom. Having a comfortable place for them to sit, that is quiet can help them become calmer quicker, which can help them return to the classroom ready to learn. In addition, the floor cushions will these will also serve the students during their educational instruction as they will provide additional flexible seating.
Our hope is that our students can find comfort physically and mentally when using the teepee, cushions, and rug space which will allow them the opportunity to access more of the educational instruction provided.
