I am the only music teacher for all of the students in grades K-12! Our school is a small, rural school in southwest Missouri. Seventy-one percent of our student body receive free or reduced lunches.
Our school is small, but my students dream big!
We have overcome many disadvantages to build a successful music program. In 2014, our band was selected to perform at the Missouri Music Educators Conference. This is the highest honor a band can receive in the state of Missouri. For the 24 years I have been here we have lacked organizational furniture to keep our music in good condition. The first Clutter Be Gone project addressed the high school program. I now need help for my elementary students.
My Project
My students buy their method books at the beginning of the year. Because the shelving we currently use is unable to keep them from falling off the shelves they end up getting damaged. Many times when the books fall off they are put back in the wrong spots. When students are in a hurry to get to the bus they not only knock them off the shelves, but they many times grab the wrong book, leading to lost instructional time. This organizer will allow me to assign a certain slot to each student, so they have their own place to keep their book and music. This would not only keep their books in better condition, but they will also be able to store other music, pencils and supplies in their very own space.
