Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students and families speak Spanish, Mam, Tongan, Arabic, Tagalog, Karen, Karenni, Nepali and Chinese. Since 45% of our students are English Language Learners, we have a rich academic program to meet their language needs. Our newcomer program serves up to forty students in our community who have moved here in the last year and speak little English. We also have a rich African American student population that thrives at our school.
Our students reflect the neighborhood's diverse immigrant and minority populations.
Throughout the year, we have cultural celebrations to celebrate the histories, cultures, and accomplishments of our diverse student population. While 9 out of 10 of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, we are rich in so many ways.
My Project
We have been working for a few months now on our student and family resource center! Here students and their families can 'shop' for personal hygiene items, clothing, and school supplies, as well as attend classes about parenting, learning English and job assistance!
We have some great storage cabinets from another Donor's Choose project (thank you) and now we just want to make sure it's all filled up!
