My Students

Think of yourself picking up a book to read and it is written in another language other than your primary language. Like me, you would be overwhelmed. That is how my struggling readers feel each time they are asked to read a book.

I teach at a Title 1 school that serves low income and poverty students.

My second graders are so eager to learn but out of 19 students I have 10 that are classified as BR, which are beginning readers. Most of the students that attend my school are low in literacy.

My Project

I want to be able to provide resources that will greatly benefit my struggling readers. I feel as if the are able to not only hear a book read to them but be able to see the words in print will help them remember words. There is only so much skill and drill and flashcards that you can do. I know myself I would benefit more from an activity that is considered "fun" to me. Books on tape allows engagement in reading.

Children and reading,you bore them with it and they will turn themselves off, you engage them in meaningful activities and you create lifelong readers.

By this project, I will be able to offer engaging activities to create literacy success for our future leaders.
