My students are missing their entire Fourth Quarter of hands-on learning. We have been out of the school building since March 19, 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
For Kindergarten, this is always a crucial time in their development.
This is the time of year when everything the students have worked on comes together. The skills they have been working on all year, blending words, addition, subtraction, sight words, it all starts to make sense in the Fourth Quarter. This is the time we, as teachers, see those "A-ha" moments and the "light bulbs" going off.
My Project
My students are missing very important instruction while not in the classroom. About half of my students are engaged in our online learning platform. However, this is not the same as hands-on experiences. These resources will be hand delivered by me to all 20 of my students.
I am hoping the workbooks will help bridge the gap between what the students learned third quarter and the beginning of their First Grade year.
They are missing an entire Fourth quarter of crucial instruction and learning development. Several of my students do not have access to classroom supplies like crayons and pencils. Many parents are out of work right now, which means these supplies are not necessities they can afford.
Simple supplies, like crayons, pencils, and pencil pouches, will help the students complete their workbooks. I really feel as though this will help my students overcome some small hurdles, as well as brighten their days a bit!
