My Students

Our Coastal Georgia school is a Title I high-poverty school, with over 70% of our students receiving free or reduced price lunch.

Our classroom is filled with twenty-three brilliant third graders who love learning!

We always have fun and exciting things going on in our classroom. We strive to create a positive learning environment. It's important to keep students engaged and intrigued. Learning happens when students are engaged. The lessons in our classroom are designed to meet the needs and interests of all learners.

My Project

The digital divide is present in our schools. Students have access to technology and the Internet at the school but they do not have the same access at home. Students use technology through the day in their classroom but are unable to continue usage in the home. Some of the families with lower incomes do not have computers or Internet in the home. Their only access to technology will be through their cell phones or the local libraries. We push for more technology in education but many of our families do not have access. This project hopes to meet this need.

Students in lower income brackets are much less likely than people in upper income brackets to have access to technology and internet in the home.

This is very true for many families at our school. This project will give the students the opportunity to take tablets home ensuring equitable access beyond the school day. Every student in my classroom will be able to use these tablets whenever and wherever they need to throughout the school year. Tablets will also come with a silicone case and a screen protector for protection. Free educational apps and eBooks will be added to the tablet for students that do not have internet access.

Learning should not stop when the school day is done.
