This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an inner-city, magnet school in our district with a medical theme. My students come from all over the city, from all different schools, cultures, and backgrounds. In spite of the many obstacles such as being homeless, my students achieve higher than all the neighboring high schools and have a one hundred percent graduation and college acceptance rate.
Unfortunately, many of our students struggle with homelessness.
Our school is located in a low-income area with all of the students receiving free lunch. More than three-quarters of our students are from low-income households.
Most of our students select careers in the medical field. Their access to resources needed to prepare them for this path is very limited. DonorsChoose makes it possible for our children to have the necessary tools to succeed.
My Project
A large number of our students are homeless and transient. They struggle with getting work completed. No one was prepared when this pandemic hit the world. We were forced to leave with very little supplies and instructional materials.
Virtual Classrooms demand certain tools in order to produce the type of lessons our students are used to and need.
Unfortunately, not all students have the technology they need to receive daily instruction and to aid in college preparation.
We need a document camera to aid a student/family through this pandemic and remote learning. These items will allow a student to build towards their career/college, affording opportunities to develop resumes and college essays, while allowing a tool for daily remote learning.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Borrelli-Luke and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
