My Students

My students are an amazing group of 4th graders from a low income, urban area. My students face some unique challenges because of their situations and I want to provide them with the supplies and experiences necessary for them to be successful in school and the greater community.

This year my students will be artists, musicians, scientists, mathematicians, readers, authors, sociologists, and so much more.

It is so important for them to have what they need to be successful. Our district has some very lofty and very achievable goals if students are just given the space, the time, and the materials. With your help, I can see that my students are college, career, and citizenship ready.

My Project

Our district has been pushing for students to learn to close read for several years now. I whole-heartedly agree that students need to be able to read and comprehend texts fluently but I'm concerned that we do not have the materials necessary to do this. My hope through this project is that with the The Intermediate Comprehension Toolkit, I will not only get the texts to help the students be successful but that I will also get sample lessons that will enable me to teach them how to read and interpret these texts.

Close reading is a skill that is incredibly important for students now and in their futures.

Students will need to read articles for jobs, contracts, and so much more! This project will enable me to teach my students how to do this work.
